Dimapur, Jan. 22 (EMN): The Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) has refuted a students’ organisation’s charge that a person who cleared the commission’s examination was "neither an indigenous inhabitant of Kiphire nor does she belongs to any Schedule Tribe of Nagaland."
The NPSC issued on Wednesday a statement stating to have verified the candidate, one Levi Sumi, who a students’ group alleged was neither an indigenous inhabitant nor from any Schedule Tribe of Nagaland.
The NPSC issued the statement in response to the All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK).
‘In the instant case, the commission received an application from Levi Sumi for the NCS & Allied Services Examination, 2018 enclosing her educational certificates from HSLC onward till her Master's Degree in (History & Archaeology) along with ST and Indigenous Inhabitant Certificates duly issued by the deputy commissioner, Kiphire, Nagaland,’ the press release read.
“In all the certificates mentioned above, the commission found that her father's name as Hotoshe Sumi, a permanent resident of Yangzitong village, Kiphire. The deputy commissioner, Kiphire has on 09/6/2017 issued Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate to Miss Levi Sumi, certifying that she and her family ordinarily resides in Yangzitong village of Kiphire and that she belongs to Sumi tribe of Kiphire district which is notified as one of the backward tribe of Nagaland.”
In having found all the pertinent documents to be genuine, the rejoinder stated, the commission selected her for the post of secretariat assistant against the backlog vacancy reserved for the Sumi in Kiphire.
‘However, the commission received a complaint from the ‘Kiphire Tuensang District Sumi Students' Union” stating that Levi Sumi is not a bona fide indigenous citizen of Yangzitong village. The commission then immediately brought the matter to the notice of the state government. Accordingly, the P & AR sought verification from the deputy commissioner, Kiphire, in respect of the Indigenous Inhabitant Certificate of Levi Sumi.’
Then on January 10 2020, the deputy commissioner of Kiphire forwarded to the government the verification report received from the GBs and council of Yangzitong village A and B, wherein the Yangzitong village council clarified that Levi Sumi, daughter of Hotoshe Sumi, is a bona fide citizen of Yangzitong village.
While the commission will always welcome complaints and suggestions from all concern citizen, the rejoinder stated, it said to expect that in the present case it would have been better had the All Sumi Students' Union discussed the issue with the commission before going public in order not to be misled by only one-sided version of the matter.
