Dimapur, June 15 (EMN): While terming the former Additional Superintendent of Police and consultant to State Police Department, MKR Pillai as ‘Mother of corruption and king broker of Nagaland,’ Nagaland Public Rights Awareness and Action Forum (NPRAAF) said removing him from the contractual service alone will not solve the larger issue of corruption in question where he is involved as kingpin.
While rebuffing the need for a consultant, NPRAAF information and publicity wing stated that ‘if there was a genuine need of consultant, the government should have recruited former IPS and NPS officers from Nagaland through an open interview and not directly appoint corrupt former police constable, who rose to the rank of ASP through manipulation.’
Terming MKR Pillai as the ‘Mother of corruption and King broker of Nagaland,’ NPRAAF alleged that he had jeopardised the State police modernisation by siphoning huge amount of money through percentage deduction in complicity with top politicians, bureaucrats and police officers. It expressed surprised that even despite of having prima facie established against Pillai in huge scam, he was still yet to be arrested.
NPRAAF appealed to the chief minister to give free hand to CBI to come out with the whole truth and put behind bars all involved in the scam. Stating that the people of Nagaland are closely watching the episode as it unfolds, it said the Chief Minister sensible action will earn him and the government credibility which is long lost.
Despite the centre allocating several hundred crores to the State till date under MPF scheme, it said the state police force is not well equipped to control riots, adding there is shortage of arms and ammunition, tear gas, riot shield, vehicles and rubber bullets etc.
Stating that under the MPF scheme, the central government had allocated fund for construction of residential and non residential building, acquisition of vehicles, modern weaponry, communication equipment, training infrastructure facilities, forensic science facilities, purchase of security and other equipment etc., NPRAAF however alleged that fund were misused.
Nagaland being listed among the most prominent recipients of non plan security scheme- the biggest funded state under the scheme just behind Assam under the scheme from the north east states- NPRAAF said Nagaland is worst equipped police force though our police forces are second to none in terms of courage and discipline.
NPRAAF has decided to submit representation to the Home Minister of India, Income Tax Department, Government of India, by apprising the seriousness of corruption unfolded in the police department and thereafter takes follow up action as it deemed fit democratically.
‘NPRAAF will not allow police department to be controlled by one former police constable,’ it affirmed.
NPRAAF view that income tax exemption has only encouraged corruption as there was no yardstick to measure the income source and disproportionate assets thereby allowing corruptions at will.
