Dimapur, July 25 (EMN): National People’s Party (NPP) Nagaland was awestruck by the sudden decision of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) to support the ruling coalition government to whom it had recently barked vociferously on misappropriation of funds and lack of infrastructure in the state.
A NPP’s press release issued by its IPR and media has particularly ridiculed the statement of NPF general secretary, Achumbemo Kikon, who said that “The idea being mooted is to form an opposition-less government to push the Naga peace process. A final shape will emerge within a week’s time,” and termed it as a 'political gimmick, absurd and a political party with no backbone'.
It questioned NPF as to why there was no political outcome and when the party was ruling the state with opposition-less government, while it awakened all of a sudden citing the concern of Naga issues. It opined that, if at all, any solution has to take place then the entire MLAs should resign to pave ways for the smooth transition of power and not grouping as one political entity and claim to be unifying for the Naga cause which in itself was a mockery to Naga nationalism.
It reminded that every Naga should be consulted before coming to any conclusion to the Naga national issues and not only the 60 elected members, which consisted of barely 0.00003% of the entire Naga population. It added that Nagas have never authorised 60 MLAs to take Naga political decisions on their behalf.
Alleging that NPF never played an active opposition role, it queried whether they were in nexus indirectly from before and waiting for such opportunity. Terming an opposition-less government showed the frustration of the NPF and willingness to share political spoils, NPP cautioned the Nagas to shun NPF and its selfish ideology.
Meanwhile, NPP has demanded immediate upgradation of Niuland in Dimapur district, Bhandari in Wokha district and Tzurangkong in mokokchung district to districts for proper administration in border areas and immediately sanction village guards in all border areas. It also questioned the state government on why the foothill road is not yet commutable despite many representations and requests by the Nagas.
NPP further warned the government that it would resort to sit-in protest across Nagaland if the foothill is not completed at the earliest and facilitate its citizens. It urged the government to understand the necessity of foothill road as Naga commuters are harassed while plying through Assam.
