DIMAPUR — The National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland state, has unequivocally condemned the brutal and racially motivated attack on a North-Eastern youth, Anjel Chakma, in Dehradun, which tragically led to his death.
In a condemnation note, the NPP Nagaland stated that the heinous crime once again exposes the persistent and systemic failure to ensure the safety and dignity of citizens from the North-Eastern region living outside their home states.
“Such incidents are not isolated aberrations but part of a disturbing and recurring pattern of racial abuse, targeted violence, and institutional apathy faced by people from the North Eastern states across the country. These acts strike at the very foundation of India’s unity and cannot be dismissed as routine law-and-order issues,” the party stated.
It urged the Government of Uttarakhand to immediately arrest all those involved and ensure that the accused are booked under the strictest provisions of criminal law.

The party also demanded swift prosecution, a time-bound investigation, and exemplary punishment; so that this case sets a clear precedent and sends an unequivocal message that racially motivated violence will be met with zero tolerance and the full force of the law.
Further, the party called upon the Parliament and Government of India to urgently take cognisance of the grave national concern and enact a comprehensive central legislation specifically addressing racial discrimination and hate crimes.
“Such a law must provide for stringent punishment, fast-track trials, victim and witness protection, and clearly defined accountability of law enforcement agencies. Repeated assurances without legislative backing have proven ineffective,” it stated.
“The NPP Nagaland asserts that national integration cannot be sustained when citizens are attacked and killed because of their racial identity.
Parliament must act decisively to ensure that no Indian, particularly from the North-Eastern region, lives in fear within their own country.”
