DIMAPUR — The National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland State, has condemned the brutal and inhuman attack on a Naga taxi driver who was assaulted with a ‘dao’ (machete) on the Jorhat Bypass Highway on January 8.
In a condemnation note, the party stated that such a “barbaric, cowardly, and premeditated act” against an innocent civilian is deeply disturbing and wholly unacceptable in a civilised and democratic society.
The NPP Nagaland noted that the accused persons had been identified and were presently under police custody. It acknowledged the prompt action taken by the law enforcement agencies and urged the Government of Assam, under the leadership of the chief minister, to ensure a fair, speedy, and exemplary course of justice through proper and transparent legal prosecution.

“Any delay or leniency in such grave matters would only embolden further acts of violence and undermine public confidence in the rule of law,” the NPP stated.
The party further expressed serious concern over the recurring insecurity, harassment, and hostile experiences faced by Naga citizens while travelling through Assam.
It stated that such incidents repeatedly highlight the vulnerability of innocent travellers and the urgent need for effective, durable, and long-term solutions to ensure their safety, dignity, and freedom of movement.
“In this context, the NPP Nagaland strongly urges the Government of Nagaland to expedite the ongoing Foothills Road Project on a war footing, treating it as a matter of critical public safety and strategic importance.
“The completion of this vital infrastructure will provide a safer alternative route within Nagaland, reduce dependence on external corridors, and significantly enhance security, connectivity, and economic activity for the people of the state,” it maintained.
The NPP Nagaland extended its full solidarity to the victim and his family and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to stand with them until justice is delivered and accountability ensured.
