Imphal, June 25 (EMN): The four National People’s Party (NPP) MLAs, who flew out of Imphal along with their party President Conard Sangma and Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, on Tuesday to meet the BJP leadership in New Delhi to resolve the political turmoil, returned to Imphal on Thursday afternoon, sources said.
Soon after their arrival on a chartered flight at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport near Imphal, they drove straight to the Raj Bhavan in Imphal to submit the letter to the state Governor Dr. Najma Heptulla to continue their support once again to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led coalition government.
Assam Minister Sarma and NPP Chief and Meghalaya Chief Minister Sangma were also present during the meeting at Raj Bhavan.
Later the team also reportedly met the state Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the latter’s office chamber in Imphal.
Prior to their visit to Raj Bhavan in Imphal, the NPP National President Conard Sangma speaking to reporters said that they had a meeting with JP Nadda and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday.
“We expressed all our concern as a political party in the alliance,” Conrad said. “Both the leaders gave us a patient hearing as we expressed our concern and all the issues and they have understood what the problem is and both the leaders assured that they’ll be looking into the affairs of Manipur on personnel level.”
On the question of changing portfolios of the four ministers from NPP, he said that all the four MLAs will continue as ministers.
Earlier Assam Minister Sarma who is the convenor of North-East Democratic Alliance, had also shared the latest development. In a tweet, he said,“A NPP delegation led by @SangmaConrad and Dy Chief Minister of Manipur Sri Y Joy Kumar Singh met Home minister @AmitShah today in New Delhi. Both @BJP4India and NPP will continue to work together for the development of Manipur.”
Similarly in a tweet, NPP chief Sangma said, “A positive meeting took place between @JPNadda ji and @himantabiswa ji and the NPP delegation and we have decided to continue to work together in the interest of people of Manipur” The BJP-led coalition Government under Chief Minister N Biren Singh plunged into trouble last Wednesday after nine MLAs, including four ministers from NPP and three BJP MLAs withdrew support to it.
