Mokokchung, Feb.11 (EMN): Another retired government officer has declared his candidature, this one with the National People’s Party (NPP) to contest at the 29th Jangpetkong assembly constituency in Mokokchung district.
Retired commissioner-secretary Dr K Chuba Ao declared his candidature on Feb. 9 with the issue of development of Jangpetkong range as his ‘main agenda.’ The retired bureaucrat declared his candidature at his native village Waromung during an emergency citizens’ meeting (Senso Mungdang).
Speaking to a section of media persons after the declaration, Dr K Chuba Ao pointed to developing Jangpetkong range road, which is in pathetic condition for the past nearly two decades, as his main agenda. He lamented that many enterprising ‘educated unemployed’ youths cannot open farms or engage in business in Jangpetkong ranges due to the condition of the road.
Jangpetkong range has a lot of economic potential, Ao said. Once the roads are developed then different villages would be able to reap full rewards from the rich natural resources in the range.
Once Jangpetkong range is economically developed, he explained, the rich natural resources of the region would benefit not only villages but also immensely contribute to the economic development of the state. He lamented also the ‘underdevelopment’ of Mangkolemba town, which is said to be one of the oldest administrative headquarters in Nagaland looking after three ranges in Mokokchung district.
Mangkolemba town deserves to be developed to its full capacity–its offices need to be developed, its human resources mobilized etc., so that the town can stand as a ‘model ADC (additional deputy commissioner) headquarter’ in the state, he said.
“My agenda is simple. As a true son of Jangpetkong range, and as a retired bureaucrat with rich experiences, my main priority is development of Jangpetkong range. Therefore, my appeal to the electorate is very simple – vote for me and I promise to repair the roads and bring the development that our range deserves,” Ao said in his appeal.
The Senso Mungdang has encouraged the candidate to work hard and to gain the confidence of the neighbouring villages and the electorate of the constituency.
Ao is one of three candidates contesting from 29th Jangpetkong. The other two candidates are ET Sunep of the Naga People’s Front and Dr Longriniken who is contesting with a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket.
