Dimapur, Nov. 22 (EMN): The Nagaland unit of the National People’s Party (NPP) is said to be campaigning for the party’s candidates in four assembly constituencies in Mizoram for the forthcoming 7th Mizoram Legislative Assembly elections, which will be held on Nov. 26.
According to a press release from the Nagaland unit of the party, the team is led by the unit’s President Ato Yepthomi, and advisor for Industries & Commerce and NIDC, Imnatiba Jamir. The press release was appended by the unit’s political affairs secretary, Lima Longkumer.
“The NPP, which was launched in Mizoram on Sep. 29 2018 is expecting to win 3-5 seats which it is hoping, would provide it the crucial numbers in playing the kingmaker’s role in government formation post elections, given the general assessment of a hung assembly in the state,” the press release stated. It explained that the NPP was revived and launched in 2013 by ‘one of the tallest leaders of the Northeast,’ the late PA Sangma, a former speaker of the Lok Sabha.
“This vision has endeared to the people of the Northeast and has now within a short span of time emerged as the strongest regional Party in the region and on the verge of potentially becoming the only National Party from the Northeast,” the press release stated.
The party is led by Conrad A Sangma, the chief minister of Meghalaya who also leads the NPP-led MDA government.
