CHUNGTIA — Achumbemo Kikon, MLA and secretary general of the Naga People's Front (NPF), on Wednesday said the party’s alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party remains intact amid the forthcoming by-election to the 28 Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 70th General Conference of the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang held at Chungtia, Kikon said the NPF and the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) had earlier been alliance partners and that, during the last state general election, the NDPP had entered into a pre- and post-poll alliance with the BJP through a seat-sharing arrangement.
Following the recent merger, he said, the NPF and NDPP have now come together under a single NPF platform.
“As far as alliances are concerned, the partnership with the BJP continues to remain intact,” Kikon said, adding that further consultations would be held with alliance partners in keeping with the existing arrangement.

On the Koridang by-election, Kikon said the process was still some time away and that decisions would be taken in due course. The by-election is expected to be held alongside the Assam state general election in April 2026.
The Koridang by-election is due following the death of Imkong L Imchen, Advisor and MLA from the constituency, over whose passing Kikon expressed sorrow.
