Dimapur, July 18 : In the wake of controversy over setting up of Special Investigation Team headed by IGP (Range) to find out the entire gamut of the fuel adulteration racket which is believed to have been going on for decades, the NPF Central Youth Wing today urged all to cooperate not only on how to bring the culprits to book but also to prevent recurrence of such rackets in future.
The Media Cell, NPF Central Youth Wing in a press note lauded the efforts of the district administration and volunteers of ACAUT, and said that the distribution of adulterated fuel over the State could adversely affect all diesel-run motor vehicles.
“It is galling that the few identified kingpins of the racket have been running the malpractice at the expense of the public, and under the very nose of the administration for decades, making lakhs and crores of rupees in the process illegally.”
At the same time, the NPF Youth Wing appealed to every right-thinking citizen to appreciate the government setting up the SIT to investigate if adulteration of fuel is also being sold in other outlets in other parts of the State, and that all guilty be brought to book without any bias.
In this regard, the NPF Youth Wing asserted that the SIT must expedite its findings so as not to prolong the matter thereby giving chance for the guilty to flee, suppress evidences or influence anyone, which will be detrimental to fairness and justice.
The NPF Central Youth Wing also appreciated TR Zeliang for setting up the SIT to bring the guilty to book, stop the malpractice and deliver justice to the people.
“This malpractice has been reported even in the past, and complaints were lodged while some accused were also caught but released on bail, or unconditionally. This must have emboldened the wrong doers and the magnitude of the racket, and the quantum of adulterated fuel being supplied to the outlets, has assumed alarming proportions now. Where preceding Governments have failed to do, or were unwilling to do, the present Government has taken a bold step and has initiated a move which can only, and should only, reach a logical and satisfactory conclusion. As is often said, credit should be given when due and to who it is due! After all, one should learn not only to accuse, blame or criticise; one should also learn how to appreciate and cooperate at times.”
The NPF Youth Wing maintained that through the initiative of Chief Minister, the government of Nagaland has decided to implement the National Food Security Act in the districts of Kohima and Dimapur by July this year, and to cover the remaining districts of the State by August.
The Youth Wing said, the government is bringing out ‘new wine in a new bottle’ by implementing the NFSA.
“If this NFSA is implemented, we are made to understand that more than 11 lakh of the populace would immensely benefit. And towards this goal, the department of Food & Civil Supplies is working on a war footing. We also understand that implementation of the Act is also going to have huge financial implications on the State Government, but the Government has decided, and we are glad to learn that NFSA is going to be a reality and that pilferages of food grains and other essential commodities to the beneficiaries would be minimal, if not impossible, with the support of the people. And with proper implementation of NFSA, pilferage of SK Oil, presently used to adulterate diesel fuel and reportedly emanating from the F & CS rations to the beneficiaries, would be checked and directly go to the beneficiaries alone. This will go a long way to check fuel adulteration in the State.”
