Kohima, Oct. 12 (EMN): The working committee of Naga People's Front (NPF) on Monday decided to field a candidate for the bye-election to 14-Southern Angami-I assembly constituency.
This was informed to journalists, after a meeting by the NPF president, Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu.
The party will decide soon on the bye-poll to 60-Pungro-Kiphire assembly constituency, he said.
Liezietsu informed that the party has decided to accept the recommendation of the search committee, which is expected to submit the name of the candidate for 14-Southern Angami-I assembly constituency by October 14.
According to him, the decision regarding its candidate for the 60-Pungro-Kiphire assembly constituency ‘will take a little more time’. He added that the search committee has been tasked with coming up with a recommendation soon.
He went on to say that the bye-polls will be a contest between “word and money”.
“Let us see how the people respond,” said the veteran leader.
The NPF chief also informed that the working committee has decided that the party will not attend the consultative meeting of all stakeholders—convened by the state government— to discuss the Naga political issue and the ongoing peace talks between the Naga political groups and the government of India on October 15.
