KOHIMA — Expressing concern over what it described as a growing and unchecked influx of illegal immigrants into Nagaland, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) has warned that the demographic balance of the state is under threat.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, the NPF maintained that the issue poses a greater danger than external aggression and demanded immediate action to curb the trend.

“The entire Nagaland, especially districts like Peren, Dimapur, Niuland, Wokha, Mokokchung, Longleng, and Mon—all sharing boundaries with Assam—have been bearing the brunt of this crisis,” the statement read.

The party claimed that illegal immigrants, particularly from Bangladesh, have not only entered the state in large numbers but have also become deeply embedded in its economy and social fabric.

“These are not just temporary labourers,” the party asserted. They are now running businesses, acquiring land, manipulating documents, and even entering the electoral rolls using forged papers, it stated.

The NPF alleged that such developments were leading to a dangerous demographic shift in the state.

While stressing that the issue should not be viewed through a communal or religious lens, the party underscored that it concerns the rightful protection of indigenous rights, land, and identity. It called for the stringent enforcement of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, especially in Dimapur and other vulnerable border areas.

The party further urged the strengthening of border control measures and police infrastructure, including enhanced manpower and modern equipment.

Reaffirming its commitment to defend the rights and future of the Naga people, the NPF called upon civil society, political leadership, and the general public to act in unity to address the growing threat of illegal immigration.
