Dimapur, June 13 : No MLA has ever neglected his constituency or stayed away from his colleagues like Thomas Ngullie for nearly two years, NPF Central said on Monday in reaction to scathing criticism from the former minister and independent legislator in local media.
In a statement, Press Bureau, NPF Central suggested Ngullie to get in touch with his colleagues rather than spend time in 5-Star Hotels in the national capital or in suites facilities at Hotel Vivor, Niathu Resorts or Rio Villa.
Responding to Ngullie’s accusation that there is absence of development in the state, the NPF sarcastically said, he should not be blamed for failing to see the developmental activities around the State in spite of the huge deficits the present dispensation inherited, because he has gone into a political hibernation since the early part of last year.
The statement added, “It is very true that in the last 35 years or so since he entered politics, nothing like this has been seen. He has taken holiday for almost two long years and his constituents do not know what he is up to or where he is. The very purpose of parliamentary democracy will be defeated if elected representatives of the people stay away from the people and shirk from their duties after embarking on political misadventures.”

The very purpose of parliamentary democracy will be defeated if elected representatives of the people stay away from the people and shirk from their duties after embarking on political misadventures.”
On Ngullie’s remark about influx of illegal immigrants in the state, NPF said, “MLA’s concern over the likely influx of illegal immigrants is laudable and his confession as a former Congress Minister that his party was responsible for paving the way for illegal immigrants to penetrate the Northeastern region has been taken note of.”
“But his contention that the State government is not taking any action to prevent influx of illegal immigrants into the State is lamentable considering the fact that District administration of Dimapur has been sincerely working on ways and means to prevent further inflow and also detection and deportation of illegal immigrants.”
The NPF pointed out that Dimapur district administration had issued an order on May 16, 2015, notifying that details and particulars of applicants for Scheduled Tribe/ Indigenous Inhabitant Certificates be verified and signed by both the GB and chairman of the colony and that the authorities were mandatorily maintaining a register of certificates issued and verified by them. GBs and Chairmen have been asked to strictly adhere to the guidelines and that issuing of false and doubtful certificates would attract stringent action against them by the district administration, NPF added.
On the question of Ngullie to the State government as to why the August 3, 2015 Peace Accord was not taken forward, the NPF said the MLA was confused with his speech.
Clarifying that the State government was not a signatory to the Accord, and in no position to take it forward, the NPF said, “Ngullie, as a self-proclaimed leader of the people, should keep himself abreast of the activities of the Parliamentary Working Committee and understand how the PWC had been interacting with the Central Leaders as well as leaders of various Naga political groups in the recent past for an early and honourable settlement of the Naga political problem.”
The NPF suggested him to attend the scheduled meeting of the Nagaland Legislators’ Forum on Naga Political Issue on June 15 and “learn more before shooting his mouth off and making a fool of himself in public domain.”
With regard to his comment on the educational qualification of the Chief Minister, the NPF said that the MLA should first consult legal experts to know what exactly the word “subjudice” means.
“With his impressive academic degrees we can only ask him to go back to the people with his certificates and see if he can come back to the Assembly in 2018. Rather than complain that there are no developmental activities in his constituency, he should participate more in the governance and take developmental activities to his Constituency instead of expecting things to happen on its own.”
A separate rejoinder issued by NPF Women Wing Central president Tonlih Wangsa and press secretary Kerie Pfukha said, on the issue of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, the Women Wing appreciate Thomas Ngullie for expressing his concern about the illegal immigrants in the state.
The Women Wing however, said, it is unfortunate that he did not attend assembly session even while the assembly was in session. “As MLA he is expected to raise his concern not only to the press and media people but also inside the Assembly.”
On Ngullie’s remark about Indo-Naga political issue, the rejoinder said, “it is good to see Thomas talking on the framework agreement. The question is when all the Naga People are working hard to solve Naga Political issue what is Thomas actually contributing towards finding solution to the Naga political issue. Infact, the MLAs are supposed to go to the respective constituency to sensitized on the framework agreement and possible solution of the Naga issue, but Thomas Ngullie instead of going to his constituency use to shuttle between Dimapur and Delhi. He hardly goes to his constituency and he is a person who will not come down to the grass root people.”
On Ngullie’s remark about lack of development in the state, the women wing said, “It is ironical that a person who does not attend even assembly and who hardly visits his constituency is talking about development activity for the people. We leave it to his voters to comment.”
The NPF women wing felt that Thomas Ngullie as an MLA was supposed to do good for the people instead of blaming the government. “It is surprising that he even blames the public instead of blaming himself as his people have elected him to work for his constituency and for the people of Nagaland. It appears that he is the most luxurious MLA in the 12th NLA as he was seen spending his time mostly in Star hotel at Delhi besides camping in Rio Villa, Niathu Resort and Hotel Vivor.”
“Thomas has no right whatsoever to poke his nose on the NPF internal affairs and we strongly caution him to be careful while commenting on the NPF party matters as he is not even a primary member of the NPF.”
“On the educational qualification of the Chief Minister, we have nothing more to comment as we have stated umpteen times that the matter is pending in the court of Law and therefore we cannot comment further as the law will take its own course of action.”
