NPF formally joins Neiphiu Rio-led PDA government, marking a key political realignment in Nagaland.

DIMAPUR — The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has officially joined the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, marking a significant shift in Nagaland’s political landscape.
In an ordinance issued on Tuesday, NPF President Apong Pongener, exercising powers under Clause 10 of Article V of the party’s constitution, announced that the NPF “shall officially join the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government under the leadership of Dr. Neiphiu Rio.”
The ordinance, signed by NPF Secretary General and MLA Achumbemo Kikon, came into effect from the forenoon of October 14.
Earlier in the day, Rio met former NPF president and ex-Chief Minister Dr. Shürhozelie Liezietsu to “seek his support and blessing for the upcoming political journey.” In a post on X, the chief minister expressed gratitude to the veteran leader for his blessings and guidance, wishing him good health and a long life.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister’s Office has convened a meeting of the PDA on October 15 at the Chief Minister’s Residential Complex, Kohima.
The meeting will include Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton and BJP State President Benjamin Yepthomi, along with senior NDPP and NPF functionaries including Abu Metha, Rusemtong Longkumer, Achumbemo Kikon, and Apong Pongener.
