Mokokchung, July 27 (EMN): More than 2000 Naga People’s Front (NPF) workers from 22nd Arkakong assembly constituency in Mokokchung district led by former minister Nuklutoshi Longkumer joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday at Chuchuyimlang village in Mokokchung.
A programme marking the event was held at Chuchuyimlang which was attended by minister for Higher & Technical Education Temjen Imna Along, and advisor for Treasuries & Accounts and National Highway Dr Longrineken, and other top BJP officials.
Welcoming the new members to the party, Along, the president of the Nagaland BJP announced that the occasion was a historic day that more than 2000 NPF worker was joining the party.
Along told the newcomers that the BJP was a ‘disciplined party where the organization’s structure is very clear’ and work is distributed accordingly. He said also that that in the coming month Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be launching five schemes.
On the political situation, the BJP leader claimed that the Congress party had been wiped out both at the state and national arena. He alleged that the Congress have lost their vision and their working system. ‘They have become a party that works only for a family.’
Congratulating former Minister Nuklutoshi for declaring 17 National Highways in the state during his tenure, Along asserted that the achievement was made possible during Modi’s rule.
Claiming that the BJP government is a government that works for the downtrodden and rural community, he cited various social reforms bills and programme like penalizing the practice of triple talaq or programmes such as giving away free LPG cylinders to more then four crore families. The BJP state president also claimed that women were more secure under the BJP government.
Further, he said that after more 20 years of negotiation between the government of India and Naga political groups, it was only during Modi’s government that the ‘framework agreement’ was signed.
“For a better future and to make a vision for the youth let us join hand with the BJP government and move ahead,’ the BJP president urged the people.
During an interacting, former minister Nuklutoshi said he had no grudge or misunderstanding with the NPF. However, he said, joining the BJP was unavoidable because of the ‘pressure from his supporters to join a new political party.’
Nuklutoshi joined the BJP in 1988 as a primary member and contested in the 2003 state general elections on the BJP ticket but lost. Later in 2006 he joined the NPF and contested as a NPF candidate in the 2008 state general elections and was elected for two consecutive terms. In 2018 he contested again on the NPF ticket but lost to incumbent Advisor Imnatiba.
During the programme, Toshimeren former president of the NPF, 22nd Arkakong assembly constituency announced that 430 active members and 1750 primary members of the NPF will be enrolled as BJP members.
Other top BJP officials also spoke at the event.
