Dimapur, Sep. 15 (EMN): Leader of opposition and convener of the political affairs mission (PAM) of Naga People’s Front (NPF), TR Zeliang, along with ‘a few NPF core members’, met with representatives of Nagaland GB Federation, Eastern Nagaland Peoples’ Organisation, Tenyimia Public Organisation, Naga Hoho, Naga Mothers’ Association, Naga Students’ Federation and Eastern Naga Students’ Federation, at Chümoukedima on Monday.
A press release from the party informed that Nagaland Tribes Council leaders could not attend the meeting “due to prior engagements”.
“The meeting lasted for almost five hours; they were all of the general view that ‘framework agreement’ signed by NSCN (IM) and ‘agreed position’ by WC NNPG needed deliberation by GoI for an honourable common final Naga accord, based on the formal talks which concluded on October 31, 2019. They were also of the view that all stakeholders be consulted and made signatories of the final Naga accord to rule out any misunderstandings,” the statement read.
Zeliang was of the view that a unified voice among all Naga civil organisations for an early solution is the first step towards attaining the final solution and lasting peace in the region, it stated.
He said that ‘positive progress is possible if tribalism, polarisation or political colours’ are kept away from the Naga issue.
According to the press release, Zeliang is likely to travel to New Delhi and meet central leaders ‘to convey the aspirations of the people for permanent peace in the region and the need to draft a common Naga accord by the GoI for early solution’.
