Dimapur, July 18 (EMN): Consequent to the decision of the Governor calling for a floor test on Wednesday and the state BJP deciding to support the group led by TR Zeliang, the NPF in an emergency general meeting of its Central Executive Council, Central Office Bearers and other office bearers decided to sever ties with the BJP, a crucial member of its DAN alliance.
"While lamenting that the BJP has decided to foment instability in the State for its own selfish ends in the near future, the NPF has resolved to sever ties with the national party, BJP, with which it has been associated with since 1977,"stated the resolution accepted in the meeting.
The meeting also observed that undue haste and favour was shown by the Governor of Nagaland towards the "dissident legislators" and questioned the neutrality and the apolitical stand of the Governor.
The party meeting also considered that the "Governor has misused, abused and tarnished Raj Bhawan to favour rebellion within the NPF party to enhance the political fortunes of the BJP in Nagaland."
"In this connection, the NPF resolves approach the President of India to recall the Governor of Nagaland immediately so that the sanctity of the gubernatorial Office in the State is maintained in future," it stated.
The party workers also claimed that in the short time since taking over as chief minister, Dr.Shurhozelie started to put his foot down to check corruption and malpractices in the State panicking many legislators.
It therefore decided to appeal to the people who want positive change in the society to come together and work for the betterment of the society in the days to come.
The meeting also in its resolution mentioned that it was "Alarmed that the 10th Schedule of the Constitution of India is being circumvented by unethical elements with active support of political powers that be in the country to enhance their political fortunes, the NPF resolves to take all legal recourse to ensure that the aims and objectives of anti-defection laws as enshrined in the 91st amendment of the Constitution are upheld."
It also resolved to appeal to the Speaker of Nagaland Legislative to rise above political considerations and continue to be the very "embodiment of propriety and impartiality".
