WOKHA — The upcoming by-election to Wokha Town Council (WTC), Ward No. 8 (Tsumang ‘B’), will witness a straight contest between the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Aling Lotha filed his nomination on Friday on an NPF ticket. He is the son of late Khozamo Murry, former chairperson of WTC.
The seat has remained vacant for six months following Murry’s demise on December 16, 2025.
Although the BJP and NDPP, now merged with the NPF, have been contesting state elections under a seat-sharing arrangement, the ULB elections have been termed a “friendly contest” by the government.
The by-election in Wokha will, however, see the NPF and BJP face each other directly.

Mhomo Humtsoe, who received the BJP ticket, also filed his nomination on Friday. Humtsoe had contested the last ULB election as an independent candidate.
Meanwhile, the BJP Nagaland organised a ticket distribution programme for the by-election to Ward No. 8, Wokha Town Council (WTC), at the district BJP office in Wokha on Friday.
The party ticket was formally handed over to intending candidate Mhomo Humtsoe. A special prayer for the candidate was offered by Nrikhon Ngullie, deacon of WT.
Expressing gratitude to the party leadership, Humtsoe appealed for the support and cooperation of party leaders, workers and the public. He emphasised the importance of collective backing from both district and state leadership and assured that, if elected, he would work with sincerity and commitment for the welfare of his ward, colony, society and the party.

Former BJP candidate and state council member of BJP Nagaland, Renponthung Ezung, also addressed the gathering. He extended his support to Humtsoe and encouraged party workers to remain united.
The programme was chaired by Jenithung Lotha, president of 38 A/C BJP, and attended by party leaders and supporters. It commenced with an invocation by Abi Humtsoe, secretary of BJP Wokha Unit, followed by a welcome address by Rhanbemo Odyuo, president of BJP Wokha.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Khochobeni Odyuo, secretary of BJP Wokha Unit.
