Theunuo also recounted on how the Congress party was accepted by the people in Nagaland through an agreement to 'save guard the interest of both the Nagas and Congress party in the state'. He also apprised how through the initiative of Indira Gandhi, the mother of Rajiv Gandhi, the Congress party was kept alive while they have been "enjoying the benefits of the ten point modalities".
He also spoke about non-violence professed by Gandhi during his leadership, stating that it takes 'much courageous be non-violent than being violent.'
Theunuo also reminded the Congress youth members to do away with the elements of division in the society as was crusaded by the leader in his time.
He said that Nagaland had 'been blessed with the frequent visits of Gandhi,' who was said to have also visited the state with his wife driving his own car from Assam showering his love while building a "good relationship" with the Nagas.
