Dimapur, Feb. 19 (EMN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has appealed to the Election Commission of India (EC) to give wide coverage of the 2018 election guidelines to voters in different local dialects.
In a representation addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner of India, the NPCC’s Vice President Khriedi Theunuo sought stern action for poll-related violence to ensure peaceful election. The NPCC has requested the EC to direct election observers to visit polling stations on the polling day and encourage voters to exercise their right to vote.
The NPCC has appealed the EC to direct the office of the chief electoral officer and district election officer to provide proper facilities so that timely information can be given to the media and public on election matters. It has urged imparting proper training to officials to ‘strengthen election law’ while performing election duties.
It has pointed out some instances where the department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences through the deputy secretary had intimated to the deputy commissioner and district election officer, Kohima, for the exemption of veterinary doctors and compounder, cattle extension officer from election related duties as per the model check list for the chief electoral officer 2009 issued by the Election Commission of India and the same was substantiated in the check list for the district election officer in connection with the conduct of general election 2014, It pointed out that on the contrary deputy commissioner and district election officer, Kohima, had served show cause notice to five veterinary doctors as per section 134 of the Representation of People’s Act 1951 for failing to attend the first round training of polling personnel.
The Congress has appealed for implementation of the Nagaland Baptist Church Council’s campaign for ‘clean’ election to strengthen election laws in the state and ensure free and fair election.
