Dimapur, October 4: Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has sounded a clarion call to the people of Nagaland to start working to remove “corrupt NPF-BJP government,” saying that the current state-of-affairs testifies against the current regime.
NPCC issued a statement on Tuesday stating a number of resolutions against the state’s failure to demonstrate political accountability, abetting sectarian ideologies, failure to address the accumulating resentment of the public for their failed welfare and widespread financial mismanagement and corruption.
NPCC alleged that under DAN government, Nagaland has lost political accountability and that the state’s own assembly had to lose its freedom to question and discuss. “It assembles for 15 minutes to fulfill constitutional requirements to enable them to withdraw public funds. Every member in the house has sinned. There is no one to throw the first stone. We are experiencing an opposition-less government with absolute power to absolutely corrupt,” the NPCC reminded the people. The Congress then took on the NPF warming to the ‘agenda of Hinduism.’ It is ‘inappropriate for a Christian state to support and facilitate a political party which has open agenda of Hinduism,’ the NPCC stated.
“It is well known to NPF that Christian brothers and sisters are persecuted elsewhere in the nation under the cloud of BJP. NPF alliance with BJP is a challenge to Christian faith. There is no reason why Christians should promote anti-Christians. Their inability to control the instinct of ‘I want more’, identifies them as morally low class people. They are sacrificing even their faith in favour of lust for money,” the NPCC stated.
Thirdly, the Congress alleged, the DAN government has failed to respond to the call of the people. “People have no protection and there is no safety and security under DAN government who have never been able to make any decisions. In Tuensang and Kiphire districts, many lives have been lost in conflict between tribes,” the NPCC cited as an instance.
“The 6th Feb 2016 murder incident at Yayi River under Rurur village has ignited communal backlashes. Over 1400 people were displaced including students and government employees. Properties were destroyed in broad daylight. The government has completely failed to anticipate the situation and take control of law and order situation. The innocent victims are yet to be compensated and rehabilitated.”
Likewise, the NPCC pointed to the corruption in the state: The press release stated that the state’s budget of Rs. 14,000 crore “vanishes in thin air” while CSS funds are being misappropriated ‘without even trickling down.’ In July 2016, the Congress stated, MGNREGA funds to the tune of Rs. 470 crore were released.
The NPCC explained: “That should have enabled payment for about 70 day’s wages. However, these funds have been snatched from the hands of helpless villagers. It is alleged that MLAs have pocketed Rs. 1 crore each. In this matter, we have submitted a memorandum to the honourable governor to appoint an impartial commission headed by retired Justice of High Court. Though honourable governor has issued statement against corruption, he has not acted on our memorandum.”
The Congress then referred to the arrested development in the state. “Our roads look more like river streams. We are moving backward to 19th century while other states are moving at fast forward with four lanes, six lanes, flyovers, metro railways and better air connectivity,” the Congress stated.
The NPCC has stated that power has gone into the hands of opportunists, political turncoats and leaders who had no concern for the people’s welfare. “Deep darkness has covered our people. There is no future with them and the situation has become unacceptable.”
“In view of the above situations, the NPCC in its general session on 28/09/2016 approves this draft resolution submitted by executive committee in the interest of the public and appeals to all likeminded citizens to join hands and work together for removal of corrupt NPF-BJP government,” the Congress stated. The NPCC has assured to ‘deliver the commitments’ as enshrined in the NPCC’s roadmap ‘both in letter and spirit to provide corruption free governance.’
