Dimapur, Nov. 9: As a mark of protest against the demonitisation policy ushered by the NDA government which completed two years, the Pradesh Congress (NPCC) held a dharna at deputy commissioner’s court in Dimapur on Friday where the party criticized the BJP led government for its demonitisation policy.
The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) also called for a press conference as they carried out the dharna. The All India Congress Committee (AICC), secretary in-charge of Nagaland, Pradyut Bordoloi, while addressing the media persons, said that the people are ‘deeply disappointed’ with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) government in Nagaland and the BJP-government led by Narendra Modi in centre’. Bordoloi also accused the BJP of ‘trying to destroy the great institutions of India’.
“We are holding a dharna, protesting the suicidal and reckless decision of Modi who imposed demonetisation exactly two years ago and then systematically ruined the growth nature of the economy of India,” said Bordoloi.
The ACCI secretary also blamed BJP of ‘robbing the jobs of the youths’ leaving lakhs of people unemployed and said that that the ‘industry, investment, trade, commerce, farmers, etc.,’ are suffering immensely because of the misgovernance of the BJP government.
He said that there is a very deep undercurrent of dissatisfaction among the people, which in turn compel the people to start reaching out and repose their faith on the Congress party.
The NPCC president, K. Therie, harped on the unsavory tag of Nagaland being the ‘most unlievable’ state in the nation, and pointed out the poor road condition in the state.
“Which road is good to travel, we cannot reach Dimapur town in two hours from 4th Mile.” He added, “The only National Highway express is not developed. How can people appreciate it?” said Therie while he heaped the blame on the BJP for all these failures and called them “morally corrupt” party.
Lok Sampark Abhiyan – door to door campaign
Secretary Bordoloi also said that the basic objective of Lok Sampark Abhiyan (LSA) – door to door campaign, was to reactivate the grass root level of the organisation. LSA is a nationwide campaign launched from Oct. 2 to Nov. 19, and approved by the Indian National Congress President Rahul Gandhi.
The secretary also gave insights about the party’s campaign in the state. Out of 2,196 polling stations in Nagaland, the party will set up the polling station level depending on the number of voters in each station. Basing on that, the party will identify five to ten coordinators from among them and visit the every household.
“We will reach out to the households within the polling station area. Party workers will go and explain to the people as to why Congress is the only hope for the rejuvenation and peace and progress of the state.”
Further, he said that the party will highlight the “total failure of the ruling alliance” in Nagaland, that actually they have not been able to do anything. He goes on to say that congress party will expose various scandals, misdeeds of the present government.
The party has decided to participate in the by-election which is due in the month of January or February 2019, by filling in with their own candidates, although name of the candidate was yet to be decided.
When asked if the party is willing to maintain alliance with other parties, Bordoloi said that they are not looking for any alliance. “We are very confident that we can fight alone.”
