Dimapur, Aug. 14 (EMN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president, K Therie, has strongly opposed to the resolution passed in the Dharam Sansad at Prayagraj in February 2022 to make India a ‘Hindu Rashtra.’
According to Therie, the first draft of the constitution of the Hindu nation or ‘Hindu Rashtra’ stated that Varanasi would replace New Delhi as the country's capital. Besides, he claimed that there was a proposal to build a 'Parliament of Religions' in Kashi (Varanasi).
Therie also alleged that it proposed that Muslims and Christians would enjoy all the rights of a common citizen, barring the right to vote. Further, every citizen would be given compulsory military training and agriculture would be made completely tax free, he added.
“We strongly condemn the selfish draft attempting to smother the fundamental rights of Christians, Muslims and other minorities. The serious endeavor to establish a ‘Hindu Rashtra’ with the contribution of seers and scholars has once again underlined the groundwork being executed to establish a Hindu nation with little or no regard for Christians, Muslims and other minorities,” Therie claimed.
Therie questioned as to how could they proposed to strip citizens of their voting rights because they are minorities. He stated that such feudal ideas have no place in the progressing world arena adding under the regime, Christians, Muslims and other minorities would be reduced to soldiers and peasants.
Affirming that Nagaland cannot be a part of such a constitution, Therie called upon the secular minded MLAs and MPs to wake up and defend secularism by withdrawing their support and denouncing the draconian draft.
