Dimapur, Dec. 21 (EMN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) organised a ‘peaceful public protest rally’ to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), 2019 and NRC at Khermahal police point in Dimapur on Saturday.
Former chief minister KL Chishi said that the protest was to show resentment for the CAA and NRC.
“India is burning, the whole country is burning; and in the Northeast states also, there is fire,” said Chishi, adding that ‘there is big danger approaching Nagaland’.
“Nagas in Nagaland will suffer with the members of parliament of the NDPP and BJP,” said Chishi.
He said that Article 371(A) is only for land resources, religious and customary practices, ‘which is why the CAA will arrive in the state in no time’.
“They have sold the Nagas. Nagas are in hardship because of the PDA,” said Chishi, After NRC, he said, uniform civil code will be imposed.
Accusing Narendra Modi and Amit Shah of ‘playing god’, Chishi said that the country does not need ‘this type of prime minister or home minister’.
Further, he accused the PDA government of ‘selling Nagaland without shedding a tear’. “They are only concerned about who will become a cabinet minister or MLA.”
Chishi went on to say: “We have to remove the CAA together, Nagas and non-Nagas of Nagaland.
The president of the NPCC, K Therie took a jibe at the two MPs from Nagaland for being ‘indecisive’.
“One MP said he supported the Bill because he was told by the party to do so. The other MP didn’t even consult his party; he himself went and supported the Bill,” said Therie.
“Twelve BJP MLAs have promised to stand with the people of Nagaland but where are they now?” questioned Therie.
“We will have to feed the outsider, give them land, jobs while we cannot even feed our farmers or get employment,” stated Therie and pointed out that ‘the foreigners’ that come for citizenship will have dual citizenship.
“CAA is in violation of the Constitution, because of this India has been divided,” said Therie. He also claimed that the BJP is now trying to diver the blame to Congress.
“In trying to do good, we might have made some mistakes but the intentions of the Congress were in the right place,” he added.
“As long as we are here, we will protest against the CAA and NRC, even to death if need be,” he proclaimed.
Former NPCC president SI Jamir said that since BJP came to power, the party has been troubling the country; and that the CAA will ‘break India’.
"From today, Nagas should unite and declare the rejection of CAA", he said.
NPCC secretary Temjen Yanger said that 'we are being discriminated and persecuted while the government was elected to protect us’.
Social commentator Kahuto Chishi, in a rather distasteful choice of word, compared the NDPP and the NPF with “prostitutes”. According to him, "NDPP and NPF are like prostitutes, but even the prostitutes will be ashamed of them.”
