The war of words between bitter rivals Congress and the BJP, over the cause and the aftermath of the NSCN-K ceasefire abrogation, continues to hit higher pitch even as the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) on Monday accused the BJP of “singing a different tune every second day” and also of “swallowing its own vomit.”
In a press release issued today, the NPCC stated that the BJP leadership has miserably failed to understand that the Naga political issue was “far greater and well above” party politics. “The abrogation of ceasefire was not carried out by the NSCN (K) alone, but the BJP government at the centre also decided not to extend ceasefire without even bothering to have a second opinion while the state government was totally ignored,” it stated.
The NPCC claimed that BJP’s “main staple diet” was to lay blame on the Congress for every problem while, at the same time, reaping the benefits of the past regime. It however reminded the BJP that no government of the day could shift their responsibility by passing the buck to previous or future governments.
“As far as Congress legislators’ joining the TR Zeliang government is concerned, the Congress party had promptly suspended its 8 MLAs whereas the BJP which hoarsely voiced out again and again that it will never be a part of government that includes Congress, is still dreaming of sharing the spoils of governance by swallowing its own vomit,” it reminded.
The NPCC pulled no punches while stating that the people were watching the “duplicity and hollowness of the statements issued by BJP leaders from time to time.” The Congress led UPA never imposed any pre-condition while engaging the Naga political groups for a political settlement, it stated.
But the BJP – who, according to the NPCC– has been “singing a different tune every second day, firstly with the promise of solution within 18 months and currently harping on inclusiveness while keeping the public in dark about the contents of talks” has made a mockery of the claim on inclusiveness.
The NPCC said that the state BJP leaders, like its president Dr M Chuba Ao, should disown the “irresponsible statements made by MoS for Home Kiren Rijiju” instead of trying to gain political mileage out of it.
