Dimapur, Nov. 03 (EMN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee has on Friday demanded the immediate resignation of Minister the Health and Family Welfare Imkong L Imchen over the incident where the minister had an altercation with the principal director of his department with an alleged manhandling by the minister.
The incident was reported to have occurred on Oct. 30, according to the news that was circulated in social media and published earlier in some of the local newspapers.
"Imkong L Imchen continuing as Minister has become untenable and therefore we demand his immediate resignation to avoid bringing further disrepute to the office he holds. In the event of Imkong L Imchen shamelessly clinging on to his chair, the Chief Minister should sack him from the Cabinet or else the Chief Minister and the entire Cabinet would be held responsible for legitimising his uncivilized conduct," stated the NPCC.
The NPCC also condemned the "unbecoming conduct" of the minister in "physically assaulting" the Principal Director Bendangyanger Jamir.
"After having learnt the details of the incident, it is very clear that the minister concerned has crossed all limits of decency by a senseless act that cannot be just wished away by tendering mere apology," it added.
The NPCC stated that the minister is a "habitual offender of law" despite being an elected lawmaker and it is a disgrace to the people of Nagaland that such person is allowed to become minister again and again while his "misdeeds" continue.
"When the minister has the audacity to physically assault a senior official without any second thoughts, then there is nothing more to expect from him when dealing with common people", it added.
The NPCC also stated that after 15 years in government, the arrogance of the NPF party and its leaders have reached such a point that they have no hesitation "physically assaulting senior government officials". The action of the government in deputing a senior minister to plead on Imchen’s behalf is an indirect way of defending his "reckless act" and the government is "sheltering" the accused minister and denying true justice to the principal director and the entire medical fraternity.
