Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has demanded for the setting up an independent enquiry on Mokokchung district supply scandal. The NPCC appealed the Chief Minister, T R Zeliang , who is in-charge of Food and Civil Supply Department to take responsibility for the entire episode and set up an independent enquiry so as to bring the culprit to book “without fear or favor and dispense justice to those who have been deprived of their due share in this chain of corruption and scandal in the district”.
It then said in a statement that the enquiry over the Mokokchung district supply scandal is moving in an inordinate slow pace and the department seems to be more active in hushing up the case than to unearth the scandal. The Governor of the state in response to the memorandum of NPCC directed the department of Food and Civil Supply Department to bring out the truth within 3 days. However, till now the department is conspicuously silent and ignored the Governor’s directive for the reason best known to them.
According to the NPCC press statement, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, on January 28, 2016 had even expressed apprehension of law and order problems to the department over the issue. And on February 6, 2016, the Deputy Commissioner had written to the Secretary of Food and Civil Supply department stating the constitution of an enquiry committee headed by the ADC Mokokchung and filing of FIR and the status of the investigation. “However, the department is still maintaining a studied silence and chooses to ignore the directive of head of the state, the head of the District administration and the demand of entire civil societies. It appears that this scandal is just the tip of the iceberg. The Department of Food and Civil Supply must spell out where do they stand? Is it too startling and frightening to reveal the action taken report?,” it asked while adding, “The department cannot and should not hide behind the adage ‘Silence is Golden’”.
