Dimapur, April 16 (EMN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has urged the state government to provide maintenance allowance of at least INR 10,000-15,000 per month to those who are stranded in other parts of the country following the nationwide lockdown.
In a letter to the state chief minister, NPCC president K Therie stated that thousands of Nagaland’s subjects are in lockdown elsewhere in the nation and abroad adding many are preparing to come back home once the lockdown is relaxed.
“It is understandable that safety of our people is important. We are not certain if the travel route will be free from the virus. The other issue is, are we prepared to receive them? If denied entry in the interests of all, if lockdown is better for all, they should be given monthly maintenance at least INR10,000-15,000 per month each,” Therie stated.
Pointing out that schools and colleges were closed, contract employees have lost jobs while travellers on business trips, tourists, patients and attendants are stranded, Therie said it should be the responsibility of the state to receive them in whatever condition they may be for they are the state government’s subjects. He has, however, left it to the government to decide the future course.
