Dimapur, Feb. 14: With Nagaland facing an unprecedented public unrest for the past two weeks and following total breakdown of State government machinery, Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today squarely held the NPF government and the central BJP leadership responsible for the turn of event and prolonging the crisis.
Accusing NPF government under the chief minister TR Zeliang of holding on to their chairs rather than listen to the voice of the people by even betraying the NBCC, NPCC Media Cell said no amount of their reasoning or justification will cover up the blatant failure leading to loss of three innocent lives, scores injured, damaged to public property and hardships faced by the people during the past fortnight. Accusing them of losing all moral authority to be in power, NPCC urged them to resign on their own and pave way for early elections.
NPCC also hit out at the indifferent attitude of the State Governor in the entire episode.
‘What more evidence does the Governor need when innocent lives have been lost; numerous public property damaged, entire government offices closed and daily routine of the people are completely disrupted for the past two weeks. Is it not a complete breakdown of the state government machinery that warrants imposition of President’s Rule?,’ NPCC questioned.
Holding NPF-BJP combined responsible for the entire mess, NPCC accused the former of playing with fire to further their interest even when the lives of the people are at great peril. It said the public spat between NPF factions is making matters worse and overshadowing the demands of the people. Moreover, it said the ruling NPF faction’s obsession with issuing fabricated statements and indulging in personal attacks spoke of their hypocrisy and arrogance which deserved condemnation by all right thinking citizens.
Also stating that 14 years of NPF rule, first under Nephiu Rio and now TR Zeliang as chief ministers have ruined the State in every sphere of governance, NPCC said it is high time for people to realise that NPF has lost its regional identity once it submitted to the dictates of BJP high command even in internal party crisis. ‘In present times, NPF and BJP are two sides of the same coin. NPF promised too many to the people of Nagaland but today their only achievement lie in dividing the Naga society,’ NPCC alleged.
Meanwhile, NPCC appealed to NTAC, JCC, and apex tribal hohos to ease the hardship of common people by lifting the restrictions on normal routine life including opening of educational institutions as thousands of students careers are at stake owing to frequent shutdowns. It claimed that the inability of the government offices to function for the past two weeks and total ban on movement of government registered vehicles is itself enough to portray the total paralysis of the State government machinery.
