Dimapur, Feb 10: Viewing seriously at the ongoing prevailing situation in the State, Political Affair Committee (PAC) of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) demanded amendment to Nagaland Municipal Act 2001 in consultation with all the stakeholders in the spirit of Article 371A.
The demand to this effect was taken during its meetings on February 10 at Congress Bhavan, Kohima. Deliberating on the issue, NPCC felt that there was no reason why DAN government should approach the Union President or Prime Minister for ordinance for exemption of Part IXA of India Constitution since the Nagaland Municipal Act is purely an NLA Act, adding any such misadventure may infringe upon Article 371A.
NPCC accused the DAN government of failing to listen to the people. It also accused the State government of betraying JCC, NBCC and the people of Nagaland, thus leading to a complete breakdown of constitution in the State. NPCC reiterated its stand to endeavour solving the Naga political problem through peaceful and constitutional means and serve as a bridge between Naga National Groups and GOI.
‘We have initiated peaceful negotiation and we continue to stand for peaceful negotiation. The 60 MLAs have come together assuring the public to bring about Naga political settlement, instead they have divided Nagas into sections and have miserably failed to bring solution,’ NPCC statement issued by its general secretary Medokul Sophie alleged. NPCC further stated that it will send a delegation to Delhi to apprise AICC on the present situation.
