Tapitu stars as Lower Bayavu Giants beat Themezie Titans
Kohima, Nov. 20 (EMN): The defending champions Lower Bayavu Giants won the opening match of the 5th 10th Northern Angami-1 T20 Bash with their victory against Themezie Perizie Titans by 8 wickets here at KVC ground, Ziekezou, Kohima village on Nov.20.
Chasing a target of 131, LBG managed to reach the target in 11.5 overs. Man of the match Tapitu of LBG led from the front with a deserving half century (64), but not before Teisovizo produced a magnificent spell for LBG with four wickets in four overs. Veri (41 runs) was also among the run getters for LBG. Electing to bat, Themezie Perizie Titans scored a total of 131 runs in 20 overs with the fall of seven wickets. Toluto Shohe was the leading scorer with 54 runs, followed by Vizovolie with 21 runs. As for TP Titans, Tali got two wickets in four overs.
The match between Upper Bayavu Sixers and Peraciezie Royals ended in a tie, while both the teams shared a point each. Electing to bat, Upper Bayavu Sixers (UBS) posed a total of 129 (All out) in 18.5 overs. Mhonbemo and Sebicham were among the leading scorers for UBS with 20 and 16 runs respectively, while man of the match Renchamo (4 wckts in 4 overs) and Renchio (2 wckts in 4 overs) were the wicket takers for Peraciezie. Chasing a mediocre total, Peraciezie also managed to score 129 runs in 20 overs with seven wickets. Nchumbemo scored 30 runs, while Romokhon scored a sublime 36 runs in just 27 balls.
As for UBS, both Depebe and Mhobemo got two wickets each. A total of 16 teams are participating in the tournament being organised by Brotherhood Group. The league round matches will continue till Dec. 4, while the tournament will conclude on Dec. 8. Earlier on the day, the inaugural function was graced by Kethosituo Sekhose, administrator, Kohima Municipal Council, as the chief guest. The programme, chaired by Vimhalie Pienyü, commenced with invocation pronounced by Sankiluma Kikon, associate pastor, Lotha Baptist Church, Kohima. Peter Vizo shared a brief history of the tournament, while a dance performance was presented by Dexterians.
