DIMAPUR — Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has completed a key milestone in the electrification of the strategically important Lumding–Badarpur hill section with the successful energisation of the New Haflong Traction Sub-Station.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, the 132 KV transmission line connecting Haflong Grid Sub-Station (GSS) and the New Haflong Traction Sub-Station (NHLG TSS) was successfully energised at 2.22 pm on June 17.
The development marks the completion of a crucial component of the railway electrification project in the Lumding–Badarpur hill section, a vital rail corridor linking the Barak Valley and the northeastern states with the rest of the country, it said.
NFR stated that with the successful energisation of the transmission line, all major physical works related to traction power supply infrastructure for the section have now been completed.

The project has entered its final stage and the section is expected to be commissioned for electric train operations after mandatory testing, inspections and trial runs are completed in the coming weeks.
The railway said electrification of the hill section is expected to improve operational efficiency, increase hauling capacity and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. It added that the project would also lower maintenance costs and contribute to environmentally sustainable railway operations.
NFR said the achievement forms part of its broader efforts to modernise railway infrastructure and provide faster, greener and more efficient rail services across the Northeast.
