Northeast Frontier Railway holds steady growth in freight unloading

The Northeast Frontier Railway successfully unloaded a total of 13,091 freight rakes during the previous fiscal year (2024–25)

  • DIMAPUR — The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has maintained a steady upward trajectory in freight unloading operations over recent fiscal years.

  • In April 2025, NFR unloaded 1245 freight carrying rakes. During the previous fiscal year (2024–25), the zone successfully unloaded a total of 13,091 freight rakes, reflecting its sustained operational efficiency and growth, the NFR stated in a press release.

  • During the month of April 2025, a total of 674 rakes of freight carrying trains were unloaded in Assam out of which 315 were loaded with essential commodities. 117 rakes in Tripura, 16 rakes in Nagaland, 6 rakes in Mizoram, 2 rakes in Meghalaya, 8 rakes each in Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur were unloaded during the month.

  • Moreover, 231 freight rakes in West Bengal and 183 freight rakes in Bihar were also unloaded during the month of within the jurisdiction of NFR.

  • NFR also transported goods like FCI rice, sugar, salt, edible oil, food grains, fertilizer, cement, coal, vegetables, auto, tank and other items during the month and unloaded them in different goods sheds within its jurisdiction.

  • “Essential and other commodities are being transported regularly not only to meet the essential requirements of common people but also to keep the local economic activity of the region moving and growing. Continuous monitoring at all levels has also resulted in reduction of turnaround time and has increased unloading efficiency,” the release stated.
