DIMAPUR — The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced advanced Fluke ii905 Acoustic Imager technology at the Sick Line and Pit Line, Guwahati Coaching Depot, to strengthen the detection of air brake and pneumatic system leakages and enhance coach safety.
The acoustic imager is being used for fast, visual detection of DV leakage, air bellow leakage and air brake pipe leakage, stated an update.
The technology enables precise pinpointing of compressed air and gas leaks through an acoustic sound map overlaid on visible images, ensuring accurate, safe and time-efficient diagnosis, it said.

This initiative improves the reliability of air brake leakage detection, reduces diagnostic time and supports timely rectification, thereby enhancing operational efficiency. To ensure effective utilisation, training has been provided to Pit Line staff on the operation of computerised RTR machines and the use of advanced diagnostic tools at the Guwahati Coaching Depot.
In addition, Sick Line, Guwahati, has undertaken the “One Day One Coach–INTENSIVE” initiative, under which one coach is taken up daily for comprehensive overhauling.
Works include exterior painting, fitment of passenger amenities, changing of berth rexine, linen storage repairs, installation of new EPPF cylinders in lavatories, and the provision of new dustbins and side mirrors. So far, three coaches have been completed under this initiative.
