Mokokchung, Oct. 25 (EMN): Theological students and faculty members from 15 North India theological colleges and seminaries are currently attending the 56th North India Theology Student’s Conference, which began on Thur. at Clark Theological College (CTC), at Aolijen in Mokokchung district. An update from the CTC stated that altogether 43 theological students and 16 faculty members were attending the four-day conference.
Rev. Dr. Kavito Zhimo, president of the Senate of Serampore College in Kolkata, and the principal of Trinity Theological College in Dimapur, delivered the keynote address at the inaugural ceremony.
In his address, Zhimo challenged the gathering to be conscious of the contemporary world. He told that gathering, “You are involved in imparting theological education to the present generation and generation to come.” He challenged the gathering: “If our theological education and preaching is not prophetic, it is pathetic.”
The updates said he talked about some of the important challenges being faced by the church in the world. “If church wants to be prophetic, she must challenge institutionalization of the church,” the president said. The church belongs to Christ, he said. Based on that truth, Zhimo called the theological community and the church to place “Christ at the centrestage.”
According to the updates, he explained that “if church wants to be prophetic, she must challenge privatization of the church.” The churches have become hierarchical and wealth-seeking churches and ignore the voice and pain of the needy, the poor and the lonely. ‘To whom are we listening? These are the challenges for which we are called,’ the speaker said.
The conference will also have panel discussions and paper presentations on various issues. The event will conclude on October 28.
