DIMAPUR — The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO) on Wednesday, appealed to the people of Manipur to embrace peace and unity, amid recent incidents of violence in the state.
Recognising the urgency of addressing the situation, NESO, in a press release, emphasised that violence is not the solution and called for a peaceful approach and dialogue to handle diverse opinions, demands, and issues within the state.
“The NESO extends a heartfelt appeal to all the people of Manipur to shun violence and recognise each other as fellow citizens of the state. We firmly believe that through peaceful means, we can address differences, find common ground, and build a harmonious society,” read the press release from NESO, the umbrella organisation representing eight students’ associations of seven north eastern states.
Acknowledging the complexities of the issues, NESO urged conflicting communities to appreciate its efforts in contributing to peace-building initiatives in Manipur and the broader north east region. The organisation has been actively engaged in fostering understanding, dialogue, and reconciliation, striving to create an atmosphere where diverse communities can coexist in harmony, it maintained.
With the festive season approaching, it further appealed to every individual to prioritise peace and goodwill. “Festivals are times of joy, reflection, and togetherness, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that these celebrations are not marred by violence or discord,” it added.
The NESO comprises the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Twipra Students’ Federation (TSF), All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Garo Students’ Union (GSU) and All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU).
