North East Christian University, signs LoI with Cooperl to advance skill development and capacity building in Nagaland's piggery sector.
DIMAPUR — North East Christian University (NECU) and Cooperl Trading India Private Limited, part of the France-based Cooperl, have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) to explore potential collaboration in training, skill development, and capacity building for the piggery sector in Nagaland.
The LoI was signed in New Delhi by Pro-Chancellor of NECU Darlando T Khathing and General Manager of Cooperl India Julien Proux. Director of PM and HR at NECU Kapil Thapa also participated in the discussions.
According to an update, the initiative comes following a separate memorandum of understanding signed between the Government of Nagaland and Cooperl Trading India to explore cooperation in modernising the sector through scientific breeding methods, improved farming practices, and technical capacity building.
Against this background, NECU and Cooperl Trading India intend to assess opportunities for cooperation in education and professional training.
The areas being considered include short-term courses, certificate programmes, practical training, Training of Trainers, and field-based learning. Potential subjects include pig breeding and genetics, animal nutrition, animal health, biosecurity, farm management, and other aspects of modern pig production.

Through this initiative, NECU aims to combine its academic and training capabilities with Cooperl’s technical and industry experience to create practical learning opportunities for farmers, students, young professionals, trainers, and other stakeholders.
It was mentioned that the discussions leading to the signing of the LoI were supported by Capt. GS Rathee, whose engagement with Cooperl, NECU, and relevant stakeholders in Nagaland helped facilitate the dialogue.
