NCD screening marks World Hypertension Day

  • DIMAPUR — Mokokchung and Peren districts observed World Hypertension Day on Saturday on the theme “Measure your blood pressure accurately, control it, live longer.”

  • In Mokokchung, World Hypertension Day was observed at the conference hall of the chief medical officer (CMO) and in all the health units.

  • Speaking at the programme held at the CMO conference hall, Dr. Limanaro, DPO (UIP&RCH), highlighted the importance on the awareness of accurate blood pressure management, causes and risk factor that leads to high blood pressure and how to prevent it in order to lead a healthy life.

  • She informed that the day was observed with an aim to educate people about the importance of preventing hypertension by creating awareness in the society.

  • An update from CMO stated that a month-long non-communicable diseases (NCD) screening campaign would be conducted throughout the Mokokchung district from May 17 to June 16.

  • In Peren, World Hypertension Day was observed in Samzuiram village.

  • Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Viholi, ZLO of Peren, emphasised on diabetes, its risk factor and prevention control. She also highlighted about hypertension, its symptoms and treatment. She discussed about the importance of regular physical exercise and encouraged the congregation to decrease intake of salt and oil.

  • She also elaborated the causes of cancer and treatment and motivated to avoid consumption of alcohol and tobacco.

  • Altogether, 46 person s were screened for blood Sugar and BP. Besides, counseling was conducted for health promotion and prevention of NCD.
