Dimapur, Dec. 18 (EMN): The Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) has maintained that there cannot be two cut-off dates concerning the coverage of the ILP regime in Dimapur district.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the committee informed that this was one of the resolutions adopted during a meeting with apex tribe hohos and civil society groups in Dimapur.
“BEFR 1873 comes along with statehood created on December 1, 1963. Also, since Indigenous Certificate is issued on the basis of December 1, 1963, it should also be the same cut-off date and year for ILP, this is non-negotiable,” it stated.
The committee also “rejected the concept of CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) for all time to come”, and asserted that “ILP and Article 371 (A)” does not protect Nagaland, even though it has been exempted under CAA, once it is enforced in the immediate neighbouring states.
“The political parties, NDPP and NPF, should come out with clear-cut stand, as to why the MPs in both the Houses of the Parliament representing the citizens of Nagaland, voted for CAA. They are to be held responsible should the future of Naga people be put to jeopardy at the end of the day,” it stated.
It also resolved to extend solidarity to all the anti-CAA movements taking across the Northeast and other parts of the country. “The meeting condemned the killings perpetuated upon the indigenous protestors by the Assam Police and by the immigrants in Tripura. The meeting also resolved to cooperate with other states under the aegis of NEFIP on the issue of CAA,” it informed.
The committee demanded the RIIN Commission to submit its final report to the government before January 31, 2020. “The final notification should be issued latest by February 29, 2020.”
It also stated that the ‘memo submitted by some vested interest non-local groups to the state government requesting it not to bring Dimapur under ILP coverage is condemnable’.
“The appeal is a misrepresentation of facts and it is a mischievous attempt to sow strife and division among different communities. JCPI has in the past consulted non-Naga communities and consider them as fellow-stakeholders in the demand for ILP coverage in Dimapur. Therefore JCPI is ever ready to reason and sort out any genuine grievances or doubts with any communities in Dimapur,” it stated.
