Dimapur, April 12 (EMN): No re-polling has been recommended in any polling station in Nagaland parliamentary constituency.
This was stated in a press release issued by the Returning Officer (RO) of Nagaland parliamentary constituency, M Patton, which was made available to media houses on Friday. The recommendation was made following preliminary scrutiny reports furnished by respective AROs and Micro Observers and on finding that there were no discrepancies.
As approved by the Commission, scrutiny of Form 17A and other documents of only those polling stations which qualifies for scrutiny at RO level as per Commission's letter No. 464/INST/2012-EPS dated February 8, 2012, was done in the office of the RO from 11 am onwards on April 12 along with the two general observers in the presence of representatives from three political parties.
It is to be mentioned that the preliminary scrutiny of Form I7A and other documents was done at the respective ARO level.
The RO statement reported that in some polling stations there were no polling agents/ only one polling agent while only 15% of the average polling percentage was reported from some polling stations. He, however, stated that there were no adverse or untoward incidents and the poll was conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.
While admitting that there were also complaints by some political functionaries on the polling day, the Ro stated that immediate actions were taken by the concerned sector magistrates. He added that such cases were disposed off as there were no further complaints from any candidate or political parties since no discrepancies were found.
The RO also stated that some presiding officers inadvertently failed to clear the mock poll from the control unit while taking out mock poll on VVPAT slip. Some of them included polling station No. 27 in Bank Colony under 1 Dimapur-I AC; polling station No. 57 in Rangapahar village under 2 Dimapur-II AC; polling station No. 1 in Nikhekhu village under 5 Ghaspani-II AC; polling station No. 23 in Yaongyimsen III under 22 Arkakong AC; and polling station No. 9 in Suruhoto town under 33 Suruhoto AC. RO requested that permission be given to count the VVPAT in place of control unit for the above mentioned polling stations.
On complaint received from INC and NPF regarding re-polling at polling station No. 31 in Riphim Old III under 37 Tyui AC alleging of multiple voting, RO stated that, by going through the report of the presiding officer and sector magistrate, no discrepancies were observed. He added that the polling agents of both the political parties were present and did not raise any issue/ complaints of multiple voting at the particular polling station.
The RO also quoted the Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Additional Returning Officer (ARO), Wokha, of denying any person casting multiple votes and abnormality when he visited that particular polling station in the first hour. He stated that the entire voting was conducted in a peaceful manner and there was no adverse or untoward incident.
Since the allegation could not be substantiated by any documentary evidence/proof, he has recommended no re-poll.
