A students’ organization in Tuensang district has appealed that nobody use “pessimistic statement” such as “deteriorating law and order situation” to describe the situation in the district following the recent communal conflict between two tribes. The Confederation of Chang Students’ Union issued a press release on Tuesday in response to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s opinion on the situation in Tuensang.
The organization appreciated the state’s BJP unit seeking immediate action from the state government to contain the Tuensang conflict. “Moreover, the concern shown by the state BJP unit and its first hand experience in the wake of inter-Tribal violence is a welcome step in its process to bring about a peaceful and conducive atmosphere in all the affected areas and the district in general,” the organization stated. However, the organization claimed that the situation was now under control, and advised all in concern not to be ‘pessimistic’: “While maintaining that the law and order situations in Tuensang has improved subsequently with the tireless and timely efforts, intervention, prayer and supports from various churches, civil societies, law-enforcing agencies and the District Administration, the state BJP unit with due respect, is reminded to avoid using a pessimistic statement such as “deteriorating law and order situation”.
The organization appealed to all in concern and including ‘parties’ that they may assess and monitor the prevailing situations “in depth with due facts and figures in all its genuineness and in the real time and real place before publishing such press releases which might hurt the already worn-out sentiments of the people and may further escalate the subsiding tension.”
Referring to the BJP’s statement which said “a particular tribe was denied from purchasing essential commodities even from the whole sellers,” the organization asserted that the statement was “completely baseless, totally unexpected from such a high profile political party and provocative in nature.”
“As such, being a matured political party of the state, your neutrality and your maturity in decision making with an optimistic approach towards the peace process and nation building is highly sought after,” the students’ group added.
