DIMAPUR — While reviewing the recent confrontation between the public of Old Ralan and the Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) stationed at DAB area, Member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (MLA) and chairman of Bhandari Sub-divisional Planning and Development Board (SDPDB), Achumbemo Kikon, maintained that no one has the right to interfere or hinder the developmental actives undertaken within the ancestral land.
Kikon stated this during the monthly meeting of the SDPDB Bhandari held at the conference hall of Summer House-cum-Guest House in Bhandari town on March 10.
The border magistrate of Uriamghat, Tsenthungo E Ngullie, highlighted to the house that tension arose when the CRPF tried to stop installation of solar panel by the IOCL technical experts at the petrol pump, which was within the ancestral land of Old Ralan village.
He further stated that the oil station in Old Ralan village is the only one in the area and was commissioned by the IOCL, which has been a long-felt need of the public after years of struggle, a DIPR report stated.
Speaking on the progress of the ongoing road construction work under foothill road project, officials of PWD (R&B) Baghty division informed the house that the stretch of road from Pangtong VR junction to Merapani would require realignment due to natural factors. He suggested that the road be constructed along the upstream of Yangri river, which would require fresh cutting of about 800 meters and widening of existing road of around 1200 meters length and construction of a bridge across the Yangri river.
In this regard, MLA Kikon stressed that road construction should be carried out by adhering to prescribed specification and to complete before the monsoon.
The SDEO of Bhandari informed the board on the challenges faced by the schools due to transfer of teachers. The SDEO informed that some schools are being manned by one or two teachers, while some schools have acute shortage of teachers.
While highlighting the departmental activities, the junior engineer of Power department, stated that work has been going on for installation of 1.6 MVA power transformers.
The assistant conservator of forest, Baghty range, also apprised the board about the endangered species of soft shell black turtle, found at its natural habitat of Akuk and Mekukla area, which has been aggravated due to mining activities in the area. The officials also informed that planning is underway for its protection and preservation.
After the board meeting, MLA Kikon inaugurated the newly constructed APMC office in Bhandari and Lotha Morung (Chumpo) constructed under State Plan 2023-24, department of Arts and Culture, Government of Nagaland.
He also kicked off the 5th edition of the departmental sports week.
