Dimapur, Jan. 30 (EMN): The Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) has appreciated the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for adopting the resolution on December 15, 2017, in support of ‘solution and not election.’
A press release issued by media cell of the NNPGs Working Committee (WC) stated that the commitment made by the elected representatives gave the people a new impetus towards achieving a common aspiration. It reiterated that the political dialogue between the Government of Indian (GOI) and Naga National Political Groups began earnestly with GOI and NNPGs signing an agreed position.
The Working Committee (WC) placed on record its deep appreciation to Core Committee of Nagaland Tribal Hohos and Civil Organisations (CCNTHCO) in particular and all Nagas in general for exhibiting unflinching commitment towards our common aspiration through “Solution not Election.”
“Election Commission of India (ECI) announced the election in our homeland in total disregard to our people’s demand. This has united all Nagas! Today, the once deeply fragmented tribal hohos, GBs, churches and Naga national political groups have come to understand that despite our differences, all sections of Nagas have come to a common understanding on the issue of “Solution not Election,” the media cell state.
On January 28 at Saramati Hotel, Dimapur, the Core Committee of Nagaland Tribal Hohos and Civil Organisations (CCNTHCO) organised a meeting where the NNPGs Working Committee and NSCN (IM), the two negotiating entities with GOI, signed a joint statement appealing to intending candidates to consider Indo-Naga political solution above electoral interest. On January 29, 2018, eleven national and regional political parties in Nagaland appended their signatures pledging not to distribute or file nomination papers.
Basing on the commitment of the people, NNPGs, in an emergency meeting, resolved that in order to safeguard the decision and interest of the Naga people, any aspirant who decides to go against the wishes of the people and go for nomination should be held accountable and branded as anti-Naga and a traitor.
It further added that any unfortunate turn of event due to non compliance of Naga people’s would be dealt with by the people themselves. It was of the view that none should attempt to sabotage the historical processes of negotiations. The statement added that would be unfortunate for any person to test the patience of patriotic Nagas.
