Kohima, Sep 6 (EMN): About 90 delegates from Nagaland comprising members from Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), Naga Hoho, GBs’ Federation etc are expected to attend the Guwahati conference scheduled on September 7 at Shrimanta Shankardeva International Auditorium, Guwahati.
Prashant Kumar, representative of Art of Living International Organisation, told media persons in a press conference at Hotel Vivor, Kohima, on September 6 evening. The Art of Living, which has been working towards conflict resolution in the northeast and other states over the past decades, is organising the Guwahati Conference on September 7.
“It is in the backdrop of many like-minded and prominent individuals and groups coming together with the International Association for Human Values (IAHV), an international not-for-profit organisation founded by world renowned humanitarian and founder of the Art Of Living Sri Sri Ravi Shankarji, to organise a day-long interaction of opinion-makers and thought-leaders of the North Eastern region of India,” said Kumar in a presentation.
Christened ‘Strength in diversity: North East Indigenous People’s Conference,’ the day-long conference will bring leaders drawn from all walks on a common platform to discuss and hold dialogues for building a shared vision for addressing the issues facing the region in the presence of Gurudev who is known for empowering individuals and groups to move together on the basis of love, equality, human values and compassion, stated Kumar.
Kumar hoped that the presence of many will provide an impetuous to this endeavour for setting a collective and positive agenda for peace, development, prosperity and co-existence in the region.
Stating that as a part of his global endeavours, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is keenly interested to work towards peace in Nagaland, he said the Nagas are looking for a respectable resolution to the protracted “Indo-Naga” conflict. The conflict has become one of the main impediments for development and has deprived the area of economic and social growth
Kumar said the North Eastern region of India is much more than a mere political construct. It is like a unique civilisation in itself with its own rich historical and cultural foundation. He said Art of Living is an international organization with a presence in over 160 countries.
Apart from peace initiative, Art of Living has sustainable rural development projects such as ‘Light a home solar project for rural electrification,’ ‘Disaster relief,’ ‘Youth skill building & empowerment of women.’
Kumar further assured to take up some projects in the future for Nagaland with the help of the State government.
