Kohima, Aug.18 (EMN):
The state capital, Kohima is looking greener by the day with the ever-increasing number of purifier plants in hundreds of pots, which are placed on the roadsides as part of "The Green Line" movement.
"The Green Line" is a citizen's initiative with the sole objective of adding a facelift to the heart of Kohima by lining up the streets of the city with potted plants, while considering the importance of environment conservation.
With the quest to beautify the capital town and concern towards conservation of environment, the New Market Women Organisation (NMWO) has set a new trend by donating 100 potted plants towards the beautification of the city on Monday and Tuesday evening.

Speaking to Eastern Mirror, NMWO advisor Nino Iralu and the secretary Swedezhono Tsükrü informed that 50 potted plants were placed along the footpath from MLA Hostel junction to TCP Gate on Monday, while another 50 pots were placed along the roadsides from TCP Gate towards Naga Hospital colony as well as the National Highway-2 Imphal-Kohima-Dimapur, on Tuesday evening.

"Some citizens have already started the initiative, so we also thought of following suit so that we can encourage one another towards the beautification of the city and also help in healing the environment by putting more greens on the roadsides, said Tsükrü.

"It's a way of bringing people together towards a noble cause with concerted efforts from concerned citizens," she added.

The containers placed alongside the roadsides in uniformity comprises of five to six varieties of fresh plant, some of which are already blooming.
The 100 cemented concrete pots were bought with INR 30,000 through contributions made by various residents of New Market colony.

Considering the need to take safety measures against Covid-19, the arrangements alongside the roads were done after 5:00 pm when the business establishments are closed, with minimal members of New Market Youth Organisation and New Market Area Panchayat besides the women organisation.

According to Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), potted plants and flowers were also laid along the pavement at Mohonkhola (Dzüvürü) area few days ago, while womenfolk from Poterlane colony planted flowers below Hotel Japfü Ashok.

Buddha belly bamboo pots along with nine other potted plants donated by late Vilar Rutsa's family were also placed at KMC office.

About 100 potted plants from teachers of Living Tree School, ECCO Kids, Café Aurora and a number of individuals also contributed towards the extension of "The Green Line".

KMC administrator, Kovi Meyase, has thanked all the donors for "the massive support towards extending ‘The Green Line’.
