MOKOKCHUNG — Speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), Sharingain Longkumer, on Monday emphasised the need for a certain degree of accountability and transparency in public service, particularly in the context of the shift in developmental funding oversight from Delhi.
The Speaker was addressing the installation of the 26-Aonglenden Assembly Constituency NDPP office bearers at Arok Sapang in Ungma village, Mokokchung district.
Longkumer congratulated the outgoing NDPP team for their stellar performance in the state general election, MP election, and ULB election, securing resounding victories. He challenged the new office bearers, sworn in for the 2025–27 tenure, to achieve similar success.
He recalled a May 2025 state seminar with secretaries and MLAs, discussing ‘Viksit Bharat @2047’ and ‘Developed Nagaland @2047,’ emphasising that Nagaland's progress is crucial to India's overall development and that a Developed India @2047 requires all states and territories to advance.
“We have 22 years to plan and implement from government-village levels-political levels with good policies, structured work distribution, and implementation with accountability and transparency,” he said, urging grassroots accountability and collaboration with the district administration as a monitoring agency.
Longkumer called for innovative approaches, emphasising that understanding local constituency needs, both rural and urban, is crucial for achieving ‘Developed India @2047’ and 'Developed Aonglenden @2047.’

He also urged leaders for a constituency-specific policy document for ‘Developed Aonglenden @2047’ to address both rural and urban needs.
He further stated that it is his duty to share the plans and vision of the state government for a ‘Developed Nagaland,’ but for a ‘Developed Aonglenden,’ it should be collective responsibility of the constituency people, adding that leaders have a crucial role to play in this context.
The Speaker also updated the gathering about ongoing projects, including the FIFA-grade astroturf football ground at Rempukong, Ungma, which has completed its first phase and is expected to finish the second phase within 10 months.
Other initiatives are a planned heliport at Rempukong, a 5-metric-ton cold storage facility at MMC Shopping Complex awaiting inauguration, and efforts to reduce plastic use through a 90-day training programme on eco-friendly banana fibre products.
Additionally, Longkumer mentioned a pipeline proposal for sericulture-based weaving of eri and mogu silk.
Seventy-three officials from 26-Aonglenden's parent, youth, and women organisations, along with 374 officials from seven units, were sworn in by Repameren, NDPP Mokokchung Region President.
Short speeches were delivered by Nungsangmeren LKR (reinstated president, 26- Aonglenden A/C NDPP), N Bendang Jamir (Working President, NDPP Nagaland), Lipokzulu LKR (Senior Vice President, NDPP Mokokchung Region), and Imkongchuba Pongen (MMC Chairperson).
