Dimapur, March 21 (EMN): Chief Minister Dr. Shurhozelie Lezietsu made obituary reference on the passing away of late Jayalalitha, the sitting chief minister of Tamil Nadu, at the fifteenth session of the twelfth Nagaland Legislative Assembly on March 21.
Chief minister mentioned that late Jayalalitha was born on February 24, 1948, at Mandya near Mysore and died on December 5, 2016, due to sudden cardiac arrest.
Dr. Shurhozelie highlighted that Jayalalitha was an actress turned politician and was a six time chief minister of Tamil Nadu. She also held the distinction for being the second female chief minister of Tamil Nadu. The chief minister also said that Jayalalitha appeared as a lead actress in various films in Tamil, Kannada and Telegu languages and received accolade for her versatility as an actor and for her dancing skills. The chief minister also stated that despite numerous controversies surrounding her political career, Jayalalitha has long enjoyed a cult like following in the state largely due to her populist and pro-poor schemes.
Deputy Speaker Imtikumzuk made obituary references on the passing away of late Mhonshan Murry, former MLA; late KV Pusa, former MLA; and late Tokheho Sema, former MLA.
Later, two minutes silent prayer was observed in the house.
