The NLA Committee on Urban Local Bodies and Village Councils visited Pfutsero to review municipal and village council acts.

DIMAPUR — The Committee on Urban Local Bodies & Nagaland Village Councils of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly conducted an official site visit to Pfutsero town under the Phek district on July 22 to review the implementation of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023 and the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act, 1978.
The committee, working under the chairmanship of Advisor for Food & Civil Supply and Legal Metrology K Tokugha Sukhalu, was accompanied by Advisor for Minority Affairs and Sericulture Imkongmar, Advisor for School Education Dr. Kekhrieilhoulie Yhome, MLA A Nyamnyei Konyak, MLA Dr. Neisatuo Mero, and MLA Y Lima Onen Chang, along with Assembly Secretariat officials led by Secretary Khruohituonuo Rio, according to a DIPR report.
The committee held separate interactions with the village council chairmen, Village Development Board secretaries under Pfutsero Sadar, councillors of the Pfutsero Town Council, and the gaon buras of Pfutsero town.
The discussions focused on the implementation of the two acts under consideration, focusing on coordination between the Pfutsero Town Council and the village councils, civil administration, service delivery, developmental activities, and challenges at the grassroots level.

During the interaction, stakeholders shared their views, concerns, and suggestions on issues relating to urban governance, sanitation and solid waste management, infrastructure development, implementation of government schemes, financial resources, and the role of village councils and Village Development Board secretaries in promoting coordinated and sustainable local governance. The committee took note of the issues and suggestions placed before it for further examination.
The committee appreciated the cooperation extended by the DC Phek, ADC Pfutsero, the Pfutsero Town Council led by Chairman Mikha Kenye, and all stakeholders. It expressed confidence that the observations and recommendations arising from the visit would contribute towards strengthening the implementation of both acts, thereby enhancing the overall functioning of Urban Local Bodies and Rural Local Bodies in the state.
