DIMAPUR — Along with the rest of the districts in Nagaland, Niuland and Tseminyu observed “Samvidhan Hatya Diwas” on June 25 to mark the 50th anniversary of the imposition of the Emergency in India in 1975.
According to a DIPR report, the Niuland district administration organised the programme, which was held at the DC conference hall.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Niuland, Sara S Jamir, recalled the period of the Emergency, during which rights such as fundamental rights, freedom of expression, media freedom, an independent judiciary, and the federal structure were suspended, describing it as the darkest period in the political history of India.
The DC also stated that the Emergency period serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of democracy and the importance of protecting fundamental rights and freedoms.
