Dimapur, May 10 (EMN): In an effort to reduce usage of single-use plastics, Dimapur district administration in collaboration with Can Youth and ADC Niuland organised a community sensitisation programme on harmful effects of plastics use cum training on paper-bag making on May 10 in the conference hall of the ADC’s office, Niuland.
A power point presentation on harmful effect of plastics use and ways to reduce single-use of plastics by community was presented by Jenpu Rongmei, chief functionary of Can Youth. The sensitisation programme was attended by school students, women organisations, community leaders and staff of ADC office, Niuland.
Training on paper-bags making to 28 women from different Self Help Groups (SHGs) was also conducted during the programme.
ADC Niuland, Athrila S, interacted with the SHG members and encouraged them to promote paper bags in Niuland sub-divisions. She also assured full cooperation in promoting paper bags as alternative to single-use plastic bags in Niuland.
Can Youth team also held interaction with the students and made them aware to reduce use of plastics use and making their school plastics free zone with the joint effort of students and teachers in Niuland.
The paper-bag training was conducted by Can Youth trainers namely Marina Rongmei, Mary Konyak, Sentiwati, Sentimongla and assisted by students of Master of Social Work (MSW) interns from NEISSR, Dimapur.
